A golfers bag is also a statement to the type of golfer you are and the brand your support. The advertising on golf bags is more predominant than with any other item in the sport.
Golf Bag Weight And Size
Really ask yourself what you are looking for prior to purchasing a golf bag. Know your needs and compare that to the weight and size you end up selecting. If you like to walk, then the lightweight bag is so very important!
Four Types Of Golf Bags:
Tour/Staff Golf Bags
These are those huge golf bags you see caddies lugging around for the Tour Pros. They are the granddaddy of golf bags. Besides for tournaments you would consider this bag if you own a golf cart and plan to keep it on the cart a majority of the time. These golf bags are not only big, but they are heavy.
Cart Golf Bag
Are you a rider or a use a push cart or a pull cart? If so you are in the market for a cart golf bag. You can get everything but the kitchen sink in to most of these bags. The cart bag is usually made of heavy, durable material and is usually manufactured with a rigid inner lining that makes the bag water resistant. There are now very cool features and pockets for wet clothes, golf shoes, valuables and many other items since the weight of the bag is not an issue as it isn't carried. The feature that is the nicest are the cooler pockets designed to keep your cold beverages cool throughout your round. Another nice feature is the graphite-friendly divider system made to eliminate the banging and denting of your irons, which makes it easier to access the clubs, especially your putter!
Stand/Carry Golf Bag
The golfer looking for some great exercise or to save a few dollars, ok more than a few dollars, should invest in a stand bag or carry bag. The best feature, which is standard on these bags is the actual stand. Simply put, it is the kick stand for your golf clubs. No kick needed with these stand however. Simply slip the bag off your shoulder and when the bottom of the golf bag hits the ground the stand opens up. The quality of stands on the stand bags varies, and some cheaper models may be prone to falling over in the wind. A stand bag is slightly more expensive than a carry bag but is more convenient and easy to use. This type of bag is usually made of synthetic material such as nylon or polyester.
These bags have nice features, depending on the brand and also carry a full set of golf clubs. Many come with dividers to protect your golf clubs. Also look for bags that already have the dual straps. The days of the single strap for a walker are over. Your back will thank you.
Carry/Sunday Golf Bag
Do you live on a course or like to knock the ball around on the driving range? The carry golf bag is designed for quick, light, transportation of a few clubs. So grab that 3-wood, 5 iron, 7 iron, wedge and putter and play two or three quick holes. If you are looking to hit the range and work on just your short game then grab the wedges and putter only and slip it in to your carry golf bag. These bags have very simple and very few compartments primarily for balls and tees. Most carry bags come with a dual, padded strap to divide the weight of the bag over both shoulders for more comfort, and a grab handle for quick carrying.
