Selecting A Golf Putter
It’s not how you drive it’s how you arrive. No club in your bag is more important that the golf putter. We all know a few one putts on the card and avoiding the dreaded three-putt snake makes the difference in how your scorecard reads at the end of the day. There will be no other club a golfer will become closer to than their putter. Putting is all about feel and comfort, if you are tall, short, or average build, find the club for your game!
Putter Length
Let’s just say length doesn’t equal success with golf putters. You will see 6’5” golfers with a short putter and 5’ 5” golfers with long putters. The length of putters are 32” to 52”. Finding a putter length for your swing is important. The long putter is also known as the belly putter. Find the putter that you feel the most relaxed and comfortable with.
Putter Technology
Inserts to putters have been a tremendous improvement to the flat stick. The feel is very noticeable and it is proven how well a ball rolls off many putters with insert type technology. All sorts of materials are being used. If you can find an insert putter that works for your stroke and reduces skidding you should consider a purchase.
Putter Design:
Traditional Putters or Blade Putters
Through time the traditional putter has been the most popular choice for golfers. These putters are still very popular as we have all grown up seeing these putters being used by our elders. The blade putter is just as it sounds, a thin putter in depth. The terms traditional or blade are interchangeable.
Mallet Putters
As you would imagine the mallet putter has the depth and design from a mallet hammer. This extra depth is unusual looking but the feel and balance is extraordinary. On the green you will notice how easy it is to align your shot to the hole with this putter.
Alignment Putters
After reading about the mallet putter you might ask what the difference is of an alignment putter? Let’s just say the manufactures have come up with all sorts of gimmicks and designs that act as alignment aides. Guess what? These designs do help many golfers. There are some interesting technologies and alignment features that greatly assist golfers on the green. We suppose Rodney Dangerfield in Caddy Shack was on to something with his futuristic putter with radar lock.
