Cleveland Golf CG11 Black Pearl Mens Wedge

Nobody wants to be blinded by the sun as it's reflected off their wedge. To combat this, Cleveland Golf has developed an advanced surface coating process that drastically reduces blinding glare while helping the club maintain its soft feel, bendability and resistance to rust.

Multi-Layered Micro-Coating Technology:

Black Pearl wedges feature a proprietary micro-coating that's formed using an advanced, multi-stage process. It starts with a hand-ground and polished CMM™ CG11 clubhead. Next, using a precise electroplating process, two layers of soft nickel (Ni) are deposited onto the surface. The clubhead is then inspected and polished to a glare-reducing satin finish. The second primary layer is electrically deposited as a thin, yet durable layer of chromium (Cr).

This provides a corrosion-resistant layer to the club while highlighting the satin finish. The final step to this techno-logically advanced finish is a tertiary outer coating. Through an advanced coating process, microscopic particles of a proprietary compound are first vaporized and then condensed onto the clubhead. The end result of this time-intensive process is a rich, glare-reducing finish with enhanced corrosion resistance and a softer feel when compared to other dark metal finishes.

The Metal:

Our goal was to find or create a material that would damp vibration in an unprecedented fashion and could be readily manipulated and engineered for performance. In fall of 2003 we created the first wedges made from light density steel. Since then we have added Black Pearl™ wedges as well as the CG1's, CG2's and the new CG4's to Cleveland Golf's line of CMM brand clubs.

This new metal, while not a composite, is infused with 17 times more carbon than traditional 8620 and 1020 steels. Using a process unique to the CMM material, microscopic carbon spheres are infused within the molecular structure of the metal. This creates a matrix that is 10% less dense than ordinary steel yet it maintains the hardness and manipulation properties of cast or forged carbon steel. These density relieving spheres within the CMM metal also dramatically damp vibration offering a pure, soft feel never before achieved in any golf club. Needless to say, Cleveland Golf has a patent pending for golf clubs made of this breakthrough material.

The Performance:

When you think of Cleveland Golf, it's hard not to think of wedges. We are known around the world for being on the cutting edge when it comes to wedge technology and performance. The introduction of the new CG11 wedges has further solidified our leadership position. Like CG10™ wedges, the new CG11 line of wedges is made from the innovative CMM™ metal, so they are some of the best feeling clubs you can get your hands on. They are also similar to the CG10 wedges in that they offer comparable spin and ball flight characteristics. The beauty of these new clubs is that, while offering players the same great versatility and dependability as the CG10 wedges, CG11 wedges give golfers a little extra forgiveness and stability.

The Design:

The new CG11 wedges feature a slightly larger sole that is wider towards the perimeter and narrows in the center. This strategic distribution of weight allowed our designers to develop a wedge that will help golfers maintain clubhead stability through impact while allowing them the same versatility and feel they'll find in CG10 wedges. And just like the rest of the wedges in the CG line, the new CG11 wedges come with precision milled grooves to give players the best possible spin control. These new wedges are also offered with low, standard and high bounce options so players of all levels can customize their wedges to perfectly match their short games.

The CG11 is available in Low, Standard, and High Bounce models.

Low Bounce - The Low Bounce option is an outstanding choice for shots from tight lies and firm turf conditions. The combination of less bounce and narrower sole width lowers the leading edge of the blade to promote clean contact on every shot. Perfect for players who have a shallow attack angle through impact.
Standard Bounce - The Standard Bounce option is the best all around wedge for playability in all types of conditions for all types of players. It is very versatile for players who like to be creative around the greens. The Standard Bounce is also an excellent choice for players who like to play an open or square face out of the bunker, and who have an average to slightly steeper attack angle.
High Bounce - The High Bounce option is designed for play out of extremely soft turf conditions and bunkers. The combination of the wider flange and ample bounce angle prevent digging and create a smoother gliding action of the sole along the ground or sand. The High Bounce is an excellent choice for players with extremely steep attack angles.
